The City of Trenton is no different — it’s the Teapot Festival!

We spoke to Mayor Tony Burris about all of the events going on this week.

“Our music fest tomorrow night, where our high school and middle school bands play,” Mayor Burris said. “Wednesday night is a community sing with our churches. Thursday night’s bingo and wrestling. Friday night, we have the fireworks, and then Saturday we end the week with a big parade.”

You may be wondering ‘a teapot festival? How does that work? How does a city get so many teapots?’

Well it was actually a donation from one of their citizens. Mayor Burris tells us more about the history of the Teapot Festival.

“They were given to us by Frederick Freed, who grew up here in Trenton. He became a doctor and was in New York and collected these. In 1980, John Melton, who was the administrator at our hospital, decided we should have a festival honoring all of these teapots,” said Mayor Burris.

So many of our cities and counties and towns in West Tennessee have their own have their own thing. They have their own event where the entire community comes out to hangout with one another and enjoy their time. That is the same thing here at the Teapot Festival. Mayor Burris tells us more.

“We see people that maybe we haven’t seen all winter long. We get to fellowship and be together again. Trenton is a close knit community anyway. A very caring, close knit community, and it’s just a great way for us to get together again and have a great time,” he said.

Starting in 1980, this makes it the 43rd annual Teapot Festival.
