The party left yesterday aboard the steamship Chicago, for Havre. Prof Garner once lived for seven years tn a bamboo hut in Africa, studying the language and habits of apes. He acquired a vocabulary of 20 words which, he said, is the limit of the ape linguistic accomplishments. Armed with this vocabulary. Prof Garner will sit as a decoy, employing the language to lure gorillas to the stand where men are to be stationed with rifles.

REFERRED TO MAYOR ADAMS Special Committee of Melrose Aldermen Reports on Investigation of Police Department MELROSE. Dec 19 The report of the special committee which Investigated affairs of the Police Department was submitted last night to the Board of Aldermen. It recommended that the entire matter be referred to Mayor Adams, and the board so voted. The report of the committee covers 700 typewritten pages, hut none of the testimony at the various hearings was made public. The hearings of the board consumed several weeks and many witnesses were heard, the cost to the city being $150.

MUlstein was the first of the two to pay the penalty. Last Sunday Kumrow and Millstein requested that their execution be advanced in order that the grief of their i datives and the feelings of their fellow inmates in the death house might be dulled as much as possible by Christmas time. MUlstein killed John E. Creedon, a policeman of Utica, last February, following his arrest on a charge of burglary Kumrow shot to death a barge watchman in Buffalo, with robbery as a motive.
