How to Apply

To assure you experience the full support and pain relief benefits of the WriStable®, you must apply the brace correctly.

For best results, we recommend following these application instructions and watching the application video.

Step 1: Open the Strap Closure Tabs and CAM buckle.

Step 2: Slip the brace over your hand, ensuring the larger piece is on top of your wrist and the word ‘WriStable’ is right side up.

Step 3: Before tightening the strap:

  • Position the larger piece on top of your wrist close to the thumb, aligned between the base of the index and middle fingers
  • Make sure the strap is beyond the forearm bones in the “wrist groove”

Step 4: While keeping your wrist straight, tighten the strap and close the CAM buckle, making sure the strap has remained in the “wrist groove.”

Step 5: Wrap the remaining strap gently around your wrist.

Step 6: Slightly turn and then press down the Strap Closure Tabs to secure them in the latch slot.

Step 7: Cut off the excess Strap Closure Tabs only when you are certain you know how long your strap needs to be. Leave at least four or five strap closure tabs so you have something to hold on to when removing the brace.
Note: Once you have cut off the tabs, the warranty is void.

Tips/Suggestions:

  • You may need to “wear in” the brace to become accustomed to it
  • You may need to periodically re-position the brace into the “wrist groove” if it slips down your arm
  • You may need to adjust the straps if the brace restricts your wrist’s backward movement during weight bearing activities like handstands or push-ups. Gradually loosen the strap until you achieve the necessary range of motion while still benefiting from the brace’s support
  • Before wearing the brace in water, wet it and retighten the strap as it tends to stretch slightly when wet. When dry, readjust as needed

Warning: If you have tingling, numbness, or increased pain while wearing the WriStable®, or any redness that does not go away when the brace is off, discontinue wear immediately and seek medical attention.

Following the recommended care instructions can greatly extend the life of your WriStable brace and straps:

  • Close brace and place in lingerie bag for protection
  • Wash in warm water on delicate cycle or by hand
  • DO NOT use bleach
  • DO NOT wash/dry in a dishwasher
  • AVOID all solvents & other harsh chemicals

The WriStable was designed by Judy Colditz, OT/L, CHT, FAOTA, the design consultant for the Push® MetaGrip®.

The WriStable features a streamlined, compact design comprised of two contoured, molded components and a narrow, adjustable strap. The webbing strap is secured with a CAM-buckle closure, allowing for a customized fit specific to each individual's needs. Worn distal to radius and ulna, directly over the carpal bones, the unique wrist brace was engineered to enhance wrist stability and alleviate pain, while still allowing functional wrist motion.

How do I know I have applied the WriStable correctly?

Check these points:

  • Be sure you have chosen the correct SIZE and RIGHT or LEFT and make sure the rounded edge is toward the fingers. You should be able to look at the brace on your wrist and read the word “WriStable” because it is right side up on the brace.
  • The top piece of the WriStable should be on the side of the wrist near the thumb and not in the middle of the wrist.
The strap should be in the “groove” between the forearm bones and the small wrist bones.
  • The strap should make your wrist feel more secure when properly applied.

There is a “sweet spot” for the strap…you will know when you find it!

When do I wear it?

The WriStable should be worn during the day when you are active and need protection for your wrist. Do not wear the WriStable when sleeping. If you need wrist protection at night, choose a wrist immobilization brace.

How tightly should I wear the WriStable?

Only you can determine the answer to this question as it depends on what you are doing. If you wear the WriStable for support while bearing weight through your wrist (push-ups, yoga, etc.) tighten the strap and test to see if you have the needed support. If not, adjust!

When should I discontinue the WriStable?

Immediately discontinue use of the WriStable and seek the advice of a medical professional if you have any numbness, tingling, burning, swelling in the hand or have any redness that does not go away after removal of the WriStable.

Can I wear the WriStable in the water?

Yes, the WriStable can be worn during water activities

  • Wet the WriStable and adjust the strap tightness (strap elongates slightly when wet)
  • When out of the water, remove the WriStable; towel dry your skin and the brace and reapply!

Is the WriStable washable?

Yes: Although it can be washed in the washing machine in a net bag (low temperature, gentle cycle), a quick wash/rinse by hand is all that is needed to keep the brace clean.

Does the WriStable require breaking in?

Just like a new pair of shoes, the WriStable may require some getting used to as we are not accustomed to wearing anything snugly around our wrist. Wear it for shorter periods in the beginning as you become acclimated to it.

Why does my WriStable move down my arm sometimes?

The skin on the back of the wrist is very mobile, and the WriStable moves with the skin. You may need to periodically open the WriStable and move it back up—beyond the forearm bones—and retighten.

When should I cut off extra strap closure tabs?

Be aware that cutting off the strap closure tabs at the end of the strap means you cannot return the brace. Some wrists will change size based on internal swelling, so it is important to wear the WriStable in a different situations and length of times before cutting off extra tabs.

REMEMBER: Leave from 4-5 tabs so you have something to hold onto when undoing your WriStable strap!
